What is DSCPdf?

DSCPdf is a free, browser-based toolkit that helps Indian professionals and businesses work with digitally signed PDF documents. Our tools allow you to verify the authenticity of a PDF's digital signature, extract the embedded X.509 DSC certificate as a .cer file, check certificate expiry dates, and view detailed signer information — all without creating an account, installing any software, or paying a rupee.

We built DSCPdf because one problem came up again and again in India's rapidly digitizing ecosystem: people have their DSC on a USB token, they've signed hundreds of documents, but when a government portal asks them to upload their .cer certificate file, they have no idea where to find it. DSCPdf solves this in under 10 seconds.

Our Mission

Our mission is to demystify digital signatures for every Indian — from the CA firm employee who processes hundreds of DSC applications a week, to the first-time GST registrant who just received their USB token and has no idea how to use it. Digital signatures are powerful, legally binding, and increasingly mandatory in Indian governance. Yet the tooling available to ordinary users has lagged far behind.

We believe that understanding and managing your digital identity should not require a computer science degree or an expensive software subscription. Every feature we build is guided by a single question: "Would a non-technical business owner in a tier-2 city find this useful in their first 60 seconds on the page?" If the answer is yes, we build it. If it requires reading a manual, we simplify it.

How We Handle Your Data

Your privacy and document security are our top priorities. Here is exactly what happens when you upload a PDF:

• Your file is transmitted to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection (TLS 1.2 or higher).
• The file is loaded into volatile server memory (RAM) — it is never written to any disk or storage system.
• The relevant signature data is parsed and the response (verification result, certificate, or signer details) is sent back to your browser.
• The file is immediately purged from memory as soon as the response is sent. There is no session, no cache, and no trace of your document on our servers after the request completes.
• We do not log file names, document contents, extracted certificate data, or any personally identifiable information from your documents.

Our Technology

DSCPdf is built on a purpose-built PDF parsing engine written to handle the full complexity of real-world signed PDFs. Unlike many online tools that rely on generic PDF libraries with limited signature support, we parse the PKCS#7 / CMS SignedData structure directly from the PDF's /Contents entry and extract certificate chains, signature timestamps, and hash algorithms from first principles.

Our verification engine reads the PDF's /ByteRange entries and recalculates the cryptographic hash of the covered byte ranges — the same process used by Adobe Acrobat and other professional signing software — to determine whether a document has been modified after signing. This approach ensures our results are accurate for any compliant ISO 32000 PDF, regardless of which signing software created it.

Does DSCPdf work on mobile phones and tablets?

Yes. DSCPdf is fully responsive and works on any modern browser on any device — Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. You can upload a PDF from your phone's file manager, cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox), or email attachment. No app installation required.

Which PDF signing standards does DSCPdf support?

Our tools support all PDFs signed according to the ISO 32000 PDF digital signature standard using PKCS#7/CMS containers. This covers virtually all signing software used in India including eMudhra SigningHub, NSDL e-Sign, Signer.Digital, Adobe Sign, DocuSign, and government signing portals. It also works with Aadhaar eSign and DigiLocker documents.

Why doesn't my PDF show a signature in DSCPdf?

This usually means the PDF contains a visual signature image (a scanned stamp or handwritten signature image pasted into the document) rather than a cryptographic digital signature. Only PDFs with a cryptographic signature embedded in the /AcroForm or /Sig fields will be detected by our tool. To confirm, try opening the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader and checking the Signature Panel — if it shows "No signatures", the document has no digital signature.

Is DSCPdf affiliated with any government body or Certifying Authority?

No. DSCPdf is an independent utility and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any government ministry, department, Certifying Authority (such as eMudhra, NSDL, or Sify), or any regulatory body.
